Niemann Jnr, Hennie

Niemann Jnr, Hennie (1972 – )

Hennie Niemann Jr was born in Bloemfontein to Magriet and Hennie Niemann. In 1980 his family moved
to Vermont where he was introduced to art at a very early age under the tuition of his artist father,
Hennie Niemann Snr and Gregoire Boonzaier. After matriculating from Hermanus High School, thanks
to his military service, he was able to spend a year in the Kruger National Park. Here surrounded by the
bushveld, his love for nature and wildlife was nurtured.

Hennie returned to Vermont and started his artistic career. In 1993 he held his first exhibition of
drawings, this was a sell-out. In 1994 he met Angela Key and together they set up a permanent studio
in Vermont where they made frequent safaris and visited game parks and nature reserves throughout
Southern Africa. They then held a highly successful exhibition of their works in 1996.

Since then his works have grown in stature and he has become one of the most sought after
contemporary artists in South Africa.
