Raubenheimer, San-Mare
San-Maré Raubenheimer was born in Springbok, Northern Cape in 1984. She matricaulated at
Swellendam High School in 2002. After school she went and studied Fine Art at Stellenbosch University.
In 2006 she obtained her BA Fine Art from the university with distinction. After obtaining her degree she
also received a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Unisa in 2008, also with distinction.
In 2006 she entered the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition, where she was a finalist. After her
studies she went into teaching for a few years. In 2010 she decided to dedicate all her time into fulfilling
her lifetime passion of becoming a full-time artist.
San-Maré works in oils and enjoys painting figures and portraits. She is fascinated by the human
psyche and body and often portrays the fragility of the human condition in a sincere, intimate yet
confrontational manner. She uses paint as paint as a medium to actually “mould” the subject matter. By
playing close attention to detail she attempts to maintain the fragile, sensitive and tactile quality of skin
and the character of her subject matter.
